County Team Update & Merit Competitions

The Lancashire County Team has qualified for the Semi-Final of the B.C.G.B.A. Senior County Championship – well done all. More details will be posted when they are known.

The full draw for the Senior Individual Merit, to be held on Saturday 30th July starting at 10am, has been published and is attached below. The competition will be held at Hawcoat Park Sports Club, Hawcoat Lane, Barrow-in-Furness LA14 4HF and should be a great day of bowling. Good luck to our two entries – Billy Speed and Chris Cooke.

The draw has also been published (below) for the Jack & Jean Isherwood Veterans Championship. This is to be held on Wednesday 20th July starting at 10am at Prees Cricket & Recreation Club, Brades Road, Prees, Whitchurch SY13 2DX. Once again good luck to our two entries, Duncan Watkins and Phil Boydell.

Disability Bowls

It is nice to see bowls being featured in this video from Parasport. If you have people with disabilities in your club then you can get help and information from the Disability Bowls England website on the various products available. This isn’t just about people in wheelchairs, but also aids for people who are unsteady or who have trouble bending down to bowl or have difficulty getting on and off the green.

See https://www.disabilitybowlsengland.org.uk/ for more information. Disability Bowls England is a charity and it is actually free to join as a club or an individual. It has traditionally dealt with clubs and players from the flat green game but is open to any bowls clubs of whatever code.

If you have had any positive experiences at your club on catering for disabled bowlers in Lancashire let us know and we can spread the word.

Supporting Inclusion and Disability Bowls Taster Day – 18 July

This course is a great opportunity to understand how you can help people who are starting to struggle to play bowls due to increasing mobility problems and also how to attract a more diverse set of people into the sport. Book now on the Coach Bowls website at http://www.coachbowls.org/course-bookings. It covers both Flat and Crown Green Bowls codes.

Lancashire Junior Merit

This is a final reminder that we are holding the Lancashire Junior Merit at Bellingham, New Lodge, Wigan, WN1 2ND on Saturday with practice from 3.30pm. The tournament will start at 4pm.

This is a formal competition and uniform should be worn, black trousers or shorts (not leggings, jeans or tracksuit bottoms) white Lancashire Shirt (these will be given out to those who do not already have one or their old one does not fit) and flat shoes or trainers for bowling.
